Lary Gemmel

Larry Gemmel has more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector helping to develop people, organizations, and communities. He has worked for United Way Centraide organizations as a fundraiser, executive director, software developer, and project manager at the local, national, and international level. He is a past executive director of the National Alliance for Children and Youth and the Canadian Alliance for Community Service-Learning where he used his networking, research, and communications skills to mobilize resources for children, youth and families through community-based agencies across Canada. He now works as an independent consultant in a variety of roles to support research and organizational development and is currently focussing on the potential and challenges of Collective Impact.



Hilary Pearson
President and CEO Philinthropic Foundation Canada

Hilary Pearson is President of Philanthropic Foundations Canada, a national network of family, independent, and corporate grantmakers in Canada. PFC promotes the growth and development of effective and responsible foundations and organized philanthropy in Canada through provision of membership services, resources and advocacy. Since 2001, she has grown the organization to become a significant voice in Canadian organized philanthropy. Her career has spanned the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She spent 12 years in the Canadian federal government in the Department of Finance and the Privy Council Office. In 1993, Ms. Pearson moved to Montreal to be Vice-President, Strategic Development, at Royal Bank of Canada and subsequently a senior consultant with the independent management consulting firm Secor, working with both private sector and nonprofit clients. In 2014 Hilary wrote Collective Impact: Venturing on an Unfamiliar Road for The Philanthropist in which she looked at the emergence of CI from a funder’s perspective.



Andrea Cohen Barak
CEO Ontario Trillium Foundation

Andrea Cohen Barrack is the CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario and Canada’s largest granting foundation. Over $110 million is awarded annually to some 1,300 nonprofit and charitable organizations across the province. OTF works to build healthy and vibrant communities through investments in human and social services, arts and culture, sports and recreation, and the environment and as part of their ReDesign2015 OTF will be offering a specific grant stream to support Collective Impact. Andrea came to OTF following a lengthy and successful career in community healthcare, most recently as CEO of Unison Health and Community Services. She is recognized for her expertise in making organizations more effective by ensuring that systems are integrated and impact is both measured and assessed.



Aaron Good
Managing Director, SiG@McConnell, The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation

Aaron is Managing Director at the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, where he leads the Innoweave Initiative. Innoweave helps community organizations learn about develop and implement social innovation approaches including Collective Impact through information sessions, workshops, coaching and direct funding. In December 2014, Innoweave partnered with the Laidlaw Foundation and Government of Ontario to launch Youth CI, which is helping collobratives develop collective impact approaches that improve outcome for youth in communities across Ontario. Prior to joining the McConnell Foundation, Aaron was Vice President at the Public Policy Forum where he led their work on Social Innovation and Social Finance and provided overall leadership on a range of projects and publications. He also served as Policy Director at the federal Office for Disability Office and as a Case Team Leader at the Bridgespan Group and Bain & Company.



Dan Clement
Vice President, United Way Canada

Dan Clement joined United Way Centraide Canada in 2007 serving as Vice President, Learning and is currently serving in the capacity of Executive Vice-President. In this capacity, he is supporting organizational alignment and planning, relationship management with United Ways Centraides and partner organizations, and providing strategic leadership for membership and business model development, knowledge management and network mobilization, capacity building and learning, and strategic initiatives. Dan has previously held positions with other United Ways Centraides, including United Way Toronto and United Ways of Ontario, where he was responsible for the development of new community initiatives and collaborations, case development for major donors and government relations. Prior to joining United Way Centraide, Dan worked with the Ontario Government and managed an independent consulting practice offering services in urban planning, public policy, housing and research.



Dylan Blake
Our MC for the Conference

Originally from Vankleek Hill, Dylan has been part of the Ottawa radio landscape since 1999 having hosted many top rated shows. He is currently heard on BOOM 99.7. You may also recognize him from television! Dylan has been a fixture on telethons in support of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He also serves as a host on “Rogers Daytime” on cable 22. Dylan also serves as professional Ring Announcer for pro wrestling and MMA events.

Dylan has also MC’d major concerts, charity and community events. He has also interviewed many top musicians, celebrities and public figures. Dylan is a champion in our city as well, having supported The Children’s Wish Foundation, Movember and the Max Keeping Fund at C.H.E.O. to name a few. Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised due to his efforts. Dylan is a three time “Ottawa’s Favorite Radio Host” nominee through Faces Magazine, having won the title twice. Through the same publication, he was nominated for Ottawa “Humanitarian of the Year” twice. In 2014 Dylan was also nominated for a Best Ottawa Business Award in the “Community Booster” category. He is also a Canadian Blood Services Champion, having organized many clinics as well as donating whole blood over 60 times!



Adam Jagelewski
Our MC for the Conference

Adam leads the outcome finance practice at the MaRS Discovery District. As an Associate Director for the Centre for Impact Investing, he is exploring new funding models for governments and nonprofit organizations, particularly Social Impact Bonds. Adam has spent most of his career in the social impact field in Canada. Prior to his roles at MaRS, Adam was a consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in nonprofit performance management as well as Aboriginal community investment. Over the last several years Adam has led social finance development and profile building projects, including the Canadian Task Force on Social Finance, which has contributed to market advancement in Canada. In addition to his role at MaRS, Adam is an advisor to several nonprofit organizations on issues of enterprise and funding. Adam is also a board member of the Responsible Investment Organization (formally Social Investment Organization). Adam is a recognized leader on topics of social finance and emerging models like Social Impact Bonds. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia. – See more at:
